Swords of Legends Name Reservation Live!

Name Reservation

The long awaited Name Reservation period is finally here.

Sword of Legends Online Name Reservation started last night at 2PM CEST

Announcements

There was multiple issues with Name Reservations last night, being with the login issue blocking the vast majority out when servers was launched. While a portion was able to jump in and grab a total of 6 names per account.

Unfortunately, I was one of those people who were unable to log in and faced with the “Game Forge Game Token” & “Invalid Authentication” error.

Gameforge acknowledged the issue 12 minutes into the situation then promptly shut the servers down, then giving us the official announcement.

We are currently checking the situation with the issue of “invalid authentication ticket”.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for the patience while the issue is being checked and addressed

It wasn’t until 30 minutes into the issue, we were given an formal communication of what would happen, if there was going to be an ETA on Name Rev being back up or a wipe was in place.

In the meantime we’ve discussed whether we should wipe the already taken names and have decided AGAINST a wipe. The ones who did get names already got in first and reserved their names fair and square, so it felt unfair from us to take those away from them, especially since those users might have left afterwards. Since we reactivated the firewall as soon as logins (for everyone) hit a roadblock, there shouldn’t be any names that were obtained in an unjust manner, so to say. Naturally some of you still won’t have gotten their desired name and all of this would have been nicer without technical issues, but there’s likely not an ideal solution for this.

Exactly 1 hour after the last announcement, we finally got news that server was ready to go live again with the final announcement of Gameforge’s plans and thought process if it was to cause more issues.

Servers will open back up at 15:45 (in 15 minutes), for everyone to reserve their names.
To clearly state this right off the bat: Should we continue to encounter unforeseen issues, we will go through with wiping after all, as well as reschedule the reservation to another date to reset chances for everyone. This is not the desired outcome, but one we have prepared should the issues prove too much for even the heavily upscaled measures we’ve taken.

Once again, the issue was persisting for fellow players myself included. It wasn’t until nearly 15 minutes after 15:45, where I was able to log in without issues, while that wasn’t the case for everyone. Some people continued to experienced the issue. Roughly 1 hour into 15:45, the issue started to disperse a bit more for the community and majority of the players was able to finally log in.

Roughly, 2 Hours into the new reservation time (15:45), Gameforge made one more announcement. It was to decide against wiping and restarting over.

1 hour in and we think it’s about time to put a final line below it all. We monitored the situation thoroughly and collected data throughout. While the first minutes after we opened up again showed similar issues, user numbers quickly rose and the issues started to dissipate.
We have, after lengthy discussion, come to the decision not to wipe. It was a very tough decision to make, as neither would have made everyone happy. Nonetheless, we believe this to be the best option.
You are right to be disappointed, so are we. The whole undertaking obviously went off the rails in an unfortunate manner and we now have to step up and learn from the data we’ve collected today. So while we go through what happened today, we hope you have a good weekend – cheers from all of the team.

While this was not the ideal situation, I believe it was a real tough call for them, in a business sense.

They were going to potentially lose players regardless what which route they went down and there was no way they could of made both sides happy. The only thing I wanted to say was, the community for SOLO was very strong, despite the experiences that some faced, many reached out for a helping hand, reserving names for our fellow game mates that ain’t even part of their guild. This is what makes the MMO so strong and makes MMORPG gaming enjoyable.

If you still have not reserved your name, the servers is still up until July 5th, with the following Limitations below.
