MSI Pro MP242 Monitor Review
I desperately needed new Monitors for my computer.
I personally use my Computer for Work, and for MMORPG Games.
Also, I usually keep Monster Super Leagues running off an emulator when my PC is on during the day as well.
The fact that I have been using my 2x 24″ monitors for the past 8~9 years is a miracle.
I was considering a 27″ upgrade however, I just don’t feel like I am able to sit there and dual-screen 27″ without going insane, it felt too big and the text too small. I already have trouble reading at times when working with a 24″ making me scale 110-130% at times for some sites and excel. So I decided, I should stay comfortable using the same 24″ size I always been using.
Going to be real, My first choice was NOT MSI. It was ASUS actually, it always has been but the ASUS 24″ monitors just looked fantastic but the price tag was a little heavy. Even more so when I walked into Harvey Norman, and guess what, I walked in there with the expectation of sucking it up and paying for the ASUS but walked out with 2x 24″ MSI Pro MP242 Monitors. Why? Let’s find out
Overall ★★★★★
Service (Retailer & Brand) ★★★★★
The service will be based on the Retailer first, the Retailer (Harvey Norman) was great. They had really friendly staff that was willing to go the extra mile to serve customers. Despite how annoying I can get, and how detail I want some information. Despite MSI was never my top 5 choices of monitors to purchase originally, I still did a fair bit of research of them before heading to the retailer. While, I have not had any Service from MSI, I pray to God I don’t as I don’t wish for my products to have issues. I have MSI products in the past, namely my Laptop, and it had issues on more than 1 occasion. While MSI fixed it without much questions at all. Thus, 5★ for both the retailer & brand.
Crystal Clear ★★★★☆
The monitor is very clear itself, for it’s price point of $200 RRP each, it was a bargain to begin with. For this sharpness and clarity for a monitor, you would be expecting to pay minimum of $300+ RRP.
Price ★★★★★
On top of the MSI PRO $25 promotion going on, and the discount from the retailer (bulk order), I only paid $150 each as opposed to the $200 RRP. While many may not think it’s a huge discount, every bit saves at the end of the day. I was ready to pay $200 per monitor already, that’s already saying something. Further, due to another promotion MSI had, I received two MSI FHD PROCAM. The Webcams were roughly around the $50-60 price range, so I decided to just sell them in the neighborhood for $30-40 each, and I sold both of them, took a week or two, but it did end up being sold for $40 and $30 respectively. All in all, along with the $50 total promo, I technically only paid 2x$150 (Monitor) – 2x$25 (MSI Promo) – $40 (webcam 1) – $30 (webcam 2) = $180 for two monitors.
Which brings us to the last part, which is actually the icing on the cake. I also attempted to try my luck and sell off my two old monitors, and to my luck some dude wanted both for $200. I was more than happy to say yes, this meant I was actually given $20 for two brand new monitors. So, do you also see why it’s 5★ now for me. It was fully worth it.
Set Up ★★★★★
There was nothing difficult about setting the monitor up, 3 parts and 2 cables. I like easy straight forward setup as opposed to some monitors which are ridiculously complex for no real reason.
Appearance ★★★★★
One of it’s biggest sell point to me was it’s near frameless look. I am a person who enjoys multiple monitors as I am very used to having different things set up on each screen. My screens are always side by side making it very annoying if I have to see a massive chuck of plastic/metal between my monitors.
Final Verdict
I would recommend, if you get yourself a nice deal like I did, this is a great budget monitor, also one of the better ones for this price range. If you want something at this budget, you are probably settling with some Acer or some budget dell. Honestly, this one feels so good, I may just get a 3rd one once I get a bigger desk 🙂
